What is Reclaim the Sound?

Reclaim the Sound is our campaign to help public organizations digitize their audio for as close to free as possible.

Reclaim the Sound can help countless institutions, like:

  • public radio stations
  • libraries
  • colleges and universities
  • museums
  • ...and many more

There's just so much great music, speeches, lectures, interviews and all kinds of audio in the analog formats like records, tapes and reels that is hardly ever actually played and heard.

Why isn't it played? Because it's much more costly in terms of time and effort to browse through a room full of records, tapes or reels than it is to double-click audio files on a computer screen. While vinyl can provide amazing audio quality, its lack of accessibility is a major drawback.

Further, analog recordings degrade with each play, making it even harder to justify doing anything with them other than just leave them alone.

The end result: These recordings continue to sit and collect dust on shelves or in storage. Their contents have been effectively lost to their institutions and the public at large.

Reclaim the Sound is here to fix that.

We take 10% of every order that's placed on our website and instead of keeping it, we donate it to the public institution of the customers' choice.

Now institutions tell their members about this idea and everyone wins!
